Efter tio års äktenskap har författaren Giovanni och hans fru Lidia glidit isär. Giovanni är inte längre attraherad av sin fru, hon finner honom tråkig och självcentrerad. Under loppet av en natt ställs de inför hjärtesorg, desperation och personlig förlust.
