Beto is een eenzame man die werkt als park- en vuurtorenwachter in het geïsoleerde Peninsula Valdes' National Park in Chubut in Argentinië. Op een dag arriveert Lola, een Spaanse moeder uit Madrid met haar autistische 11-jarige zoontje Tristán, die Beto kennen van een documentaire over walvissen.
