Una giovane donna, Malka, è costretta dalle convenzioni a sposare un uomo che non ama, mentre Rivka che ama, riamata, suo marito, su istigazione del rabbino viene ripudiata perchè ritenuta, ingiustamente, sterile. Tutto ciò non avviene nel medioevo ma ai giorni nostri, a Mea Shearim, il quartiere ultraortodosso di Gerusalemme.
