It's 1975 in Sweden. Tired of her abusive husband, fairly ordinary housewife Elisabeth packs her bags, takes her children and goes off to stay with her brother Göran. He lives in a commune with long-haired people who discuss politics, have free sex, grow vegetables and drink lots of red wine.
