Hospitalisé à la suite d'un accident de voiture, un jeune homme revit les évènements qui ont précédé sa perte de connaissance. En attendant que sa voiture soit réparée, il s'était réfugié dans une famille au comportement étrange : ces gens étaient terrorisés par l'apparition de créatures nocturnes qui tuent les êtres qu'elles aiment pour échapper à leur propre solitude.
