"Folk kan ikke lide at blive set om natten, og mit job er at se dem". Vicepolitikommissær Weiss patruljerer i Paris´ natteliv. Weiss spiller efter sine egne regler, mens hans sørger for, at ejerne af byens barer og bordeller ikke begår for mange ulovligheder. Da han får en ny makker, får han samtidig en skygge, der kommer til at opleve en lang nat, hvor loven må brydes for at ro og orden kan opretholdes.
