Im mittelalterlichen China streiten die Fürstenhäuser der Yan und der Zhao um die Macht im Lande. Als der alte Yan-König in einer Schlacht eine tödliche Verwundung erleidet, bestimmt er seinen Adoptivsohn zu seinem Nachfolger. Um Verstimmungen mit dem hitzköpfigen echten Sohn zu verneiden, springt jedoch die Prinzessin in die Bresche.
