1958: Die hübsche Rose macht sich von der tiefsten Normandie auf in die nächste Provinzstadt und findet einen Job als Sekretärin. Ihr Chef setzt es sich in den Kopf, sie zur Schnellschreib-Weltmeisterin zu machen und lässt sie bis zur Erschöpfung das Zehnfingersystem üben. Er merkt nicht, dass sie sich in ihn verliebt. Erst als der Spross einer Schreibmaschinenfabrik das Mädel nicht nur als Werbe-Ikone unter seine Fittiche nimmt, dämmert dem Misanthropen, dass er handeln muss.
