En los años 30, bajo los tejados del París, en las buhardillas, viven los bohemios, los pobres, los artistas y los extranjeros. Entre ellos está Albert, un cantante callejero que se ha enamorado de Pola, una inmigrante polaca a la que también persigue Fred, jefe de una banda de gángsters.
