The Brass Band
What happens to the Brass Band, founded in 1953 by the workers of Mittal Steel (formerly Lenin Steelworks in Krakow, Poland), when a new owner takes over the factory in a privatization process? Their story is a great example of a former socialist country's painful transition to capitalism. The band is in the midst of a complete make-over. They need to change not only their name but also their repertoire. But their director approaches it all with sympathy and compassion. Will the workers be able to save this band which has been playing for more than fifty years? How will they accept the privatization process which is so ruthless and thorough? Their vibrant music carries them through these changes and enlivens this entertaining documentary. - Stela Jelincic
