Aki Kaurismäki explores the chilly loneliness of the Helsinki night in his typically droll take on film noir, the final installment in his trilogy of films begun by DRIFTING CLOUDS and THE MAN WITHOUT A PAST. Koistinen (Janne Hyytiäinen) is a night watchman whose sad, solitary existence is upended when he meets Mirja (Maria Jarvenhelmi), a glamorous blonde whom he soon thinks of as his girlfriend. Little does he suspect that she has ulterior motives for pursuing him.
