Schulabbrecherin Alex soll lernen, wie es ist, feste Strukturen im Leben zu haben. Daher schickt die Adoptivmutter die 16-Jährige zu einem Praktikum auf einen Reiterhof an der Nordsee. Nach ersten Protesten lernt Alex die Arbeit mit den Tieren schätzen, auch mit der lesbischen Ausbilderin Nina kommt sie immer besser zurecht. Dann taucht Kathy als Feriengast auf dem Hof auf - mit eigenen Pferden im Schlepptau. Was mit Eifersüchteleien beginnt, entwickelt sich schließlich zur tiefen Freundschaft.
