La historia tiene lugar durante la Edad Media en Serbia, durante la invasión Otomana. Banovic Strahinja sale de caza cuando un bandido turco, Alija, ataca su castillo. Los turcos matan a todos sus siervos y secuestran a su amada Andja. Strahinja acude a su suegro, un poderoso duque, pero éste rechaza ayudarle, para él, su hija ya está muerta, habiéndose convertido en concubina de los turcos. Strahinja se tendrá que conformar con un puñado de esclavos para rescatar a su amada.
