6. The Quints' First Halloween

2017 - Season 1

Halloween is around the corner and Liz and Daniel are beyond thrilled to celebrate their first holiday as a family. Liz proposes they find a theme for all the babies to match, like animals or professions. Even Rowan is excited to be a police officer for Halloween. Daniel tells Liz that he's about to enter his hardest surgical rotation yet so he won't be around much. He will be there for the big events, but can't participate in the little things like decorating or costume shopping. Liz decides to invite her friend Sylvia to shop for costumes with her. At the Halloween store, Liz lucks out and manages to find five different baby costumes that match the theme of professions. She also manages to find the police officer costume for Rowan! Meanwhile, Nolan's grunting has grown worse and he now looks like he's in pain when he grunts. Liz makes an appointment with their pediatrician, who actually has Liz bring in all of the boys as they have a similar health history. Dr. Fatter refers Liz and the boys to a specialist, who ultimately confirms that the boys need to have surgery to remove their hernias. In some cases, hernias in micro-preemies resolve themselves and surgery is not needed. However, that's not the case for Liam, Connell, Dillon, and Nolan. Heartbroken at the news, Liz relays this information to Daniel. Liz's biggest fear is that if the boys undergo the surgery, they are put at risk of their reproductive organs being damaged. The last thing Liz wants is for her boys to have the same issues with infertility that Liz and Daniel had. Daniel re-assures Liz that the boys will be okay and they will get through this as a family. Meanwhile, Daniel's mom, Kelly, must go back to work as her family medical leave has expired. Timing is difficult, but Liz and Daniel are beyond thankful to have had her around for as long as they did. Despite the unfortunate news about the boys' surgery, Liz and Daniel put their best foot forward and are determined to make this the greatest Halloween ever. They put the quints and Rowan in their costumes and go trick-or-treat as a family. Even though the Hodges still have obstacles ahead of them, Liz and Daniel will never forget where their journey started. They know they will pull through as a family and overcome any hurdles that come their way.

4. Quints' First Photo Shoot, Say Cheese!

2017 - Season 1

With the quints almost five months old, Liz and Daniel start "tummy time" to help the babies work their neck muscles. As Daniel is knee-deep with medical school, he can't be around as often to help out around the house. He is worried about Liz doing everything on her own and not taking time for herself. Liz wants to decorate the nursery, prepare for the photo shoot, on top of all the daily duties of caring for these quints and Rowan. Thankfully, KK and Donna are still around to help with the babies while Daniel is away. Liz and Donna go shopping to find the perfect coordinating outfits for the four boys and one girl to match in the pictures. With no luck, they return home and Liz immediately starts working on decorating the nursery. Daniel and Rowan get to work on painting and making a growth board for the nursery while Liz decorates the bedroom walls. Later, Liesel stops by to bring Liz some meals and chitchat. Rowan gets an afternoon treat when Daniel and KK decide to take him out for cupcakes! The day before the photo shoot, Liesel and Sylvia show up at Liz's door and surprise her with a mobile nail spa. The girls spend some alone time getting pedicures and gossiping. In preparation for the photo shoot, Liz and Nicole talk about details over Skype. Nicole's gifts arrive in the mail. Nicole painted zoo animals on wood for the quints' nursery. Liz is overjoyed with the stunning artwork. With everything finally put together in the nursery, the family takes it all in, and are happy to be done. The photo-shoot day has finally arrived, but Liz sleeps through her alarms. She rushes to get ready so she can watch every magical moment of her beautiful miracles being photographed. With the shoot a success and pictures coming out perfectly, Liz and Daniel are absolutely relieved.

3. Mo Babies, Mo Problems

2017 - Season 1

After four long months, Liz and Daniel finally get to bring their fifth baby home from the NICU. It's such a milestone that the hospital even organizes a big press event to celebrate the Hodges officially becoming a family of eight. Liz's mother, Donna moves in to help as well as Daniel's mother, Kelly. They know they need all the help they can get. With all the babies home, it's nonstop bottle feeding and diaper changing. Amidst all the chaos, Rowan's bad behavior begins to escalate outside the house and into the classroom. Daniel learns from Rowan's teacher that Rowan is not sharing at school. Surprised by the news, Daniel uses this as an opportunity to teach Rowan a life lesson of how to share. After all, Rowan will have four brothers and one sister he'll need to share with. Meanwhile, Teagan begins to have issues finishing all of her bottles. At her pediatric check-up, Liz learns that Teagan has not gained any weight since she's been home and it's crucial for micro-preemies to catch up on their weight. In a random turn of events, Nolan also has an episode where he stops breathing and his face turns blue. Panicked, Daniel takes him and stimulates him to get him to start breathing again. At the end of the long week, Liz and Daniel decide to have some fun and take the entire family out for a short walk around the neighborhood. Rowan unexpectedly gets tired after only walking half a block, but at least they made it outside. Considering the hard week they just endured, Liz and Daniel still consider getting outside a victory!

They are given unfortunate news that none of the quints are healthy enough to be discharged. Sullen and dejected, the Hodges get ice cream to lift their spirits. With babies coming home any time now, Liz and Daniel show extra attention to Rowan so he doesn't feel neglected. When they get home, Liz and Daniel go through the bills and sort out their envelope system for the month. They are barely scraping by. Liz gets a call from the hospital that Liam and Connell can be released. Liam and Connell are finally home, but the honeymoon phase is over; they get right to business by feeding the babies. What's their feeding schedule going to look like when they have to feed all five? Realizing the diaper stock is running low, Daniel takes Rowan to the grocery store to buy more. With the house a mess from all the chaos, Rowan trips and gets hurt. To add to the stress, Liz finds out the baby formula costs much more than she and Daniel can afford. As Liz tells Daniel the bad news, Daniel surprises her with news of his own: They get to bring home two more babies.
