Where to watch "Killing Fields"

101. Murder Isle: Day of Reckoning

2018 - Season 3

Take a look back at the major leads and breaks in 3 different cold cases featured in Season 2 of Killing Fields, as seen through the eyes of Detective Rodie Sanchez, his partner Detective Aubrey St. Angelo, and the team at the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office. The 24-year-old homicide of Eugenie Boisfontaine continued to haunt Rodie, who was the lead detective on the case back in 1993. Eugenie's ex-husband was their prime suspect, but when they brought him in for questioning, he declined to talk with investigators. Without new information, the detectives turned to people who knew him and Eugenie. Investigators found out that he conceived a child with his second wife while he was still married to Eugenie, which gave credence to an interesting potential motive. The detectives also learned that the ex-husband drove a silver Nissan pickup truck, which could match the silver truck witnesses described seeing around Eugenie's neighborhood and the dumpsite area -- if they find the truck it could have critical new evidence. However, there has yet to be an arrest in Eugenie's case and it remains open. Meanwhile, Major Ronnie Hebert received a big update about another one of their cold cases. The Louisiana State University F.A.C.E.S. Lab received a barrel with human remains in it, which could be tied to the 1991 missing persons case of Curtis "Cochise" Smith. Local businessman, Tommy Francise, previously told Rodie that he killed Smith, put his body in a barrel, and dumped it in the Mississippi River. But Smith's body was never found, so the state never brought formal charges against Francise. Unfortunately, it was determined that the body in this barrel was not Cochise. The detectives still moved forward with the case and interviewed witnesses who were close to Tommy who provided compelling statements to the detectives. Detectives met with the District Attorney to discuss what else they needed to for an arrest. He recommended proving a pattern in Tommy's criminal activity, and they knew exactly where to turn. In 2002, one of Rodie's confidential informants on Francise, George Barrett, was shot dead. Rodie suspected Francise for this crime as well, but could never prove it. This time, they re-interviewed one of Tommy's ex-girlfriends, who put a big hole in his alibi on the night of Barrett's death. Finally armed with enough evidence, the detectives obtained a warrant and arrested Francise. He pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder. Tommy Francise remains behind bars while he awaits trial; he is innocent until proven guilty. While the detectives' work on this case is done, the ending is bittersweet since the case that got them started Eugenie Boisfontaine remains open. Even though Rodie is retired, he vows to do everything in his power to one day find justice for Eugenie. But Iberville Parish is not the only town with cold cases waiting to be solved. There is a team of investigators in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, who have recently reopened the 13-year-old cold case of Carrie Singer. Carrie's beaten, half-naked body was found dumped in a local farm field on July 1, 2004. Her killer has never been caught. Take an exclusive look at what lies ahead in this new season of Killing Fields, as Lead Investigator Randy Patrick and his team follows leads and uncovers new evidence in another haunting homicide investigation. This is an active homicide investigations, shot in real time and individuals are innocent until proven guilty. Note: Years are calculated based on 2017 air.
