53. Grapevine Clipper

Who would guess that grapevines need a haircut? Clipper does his best to trim off the leaves that shade the grapes from the sun without hurting the fruit. Up and down the rows he travels, clipping off the leaves and blowing them out behind him. Now the sun can reach the grapes and ripen them to perfection.

50. Towing a Mighty Machine

Once Big Digger is aboard the float, Ollie makes him safe and secure by strapping him down and attaching flags to him to indicate that this is a wide load. Now the tow truck reconnects the gooseneck to the float, and off they go down the road to the construction site. Big Digger is excited to be going to his very first job!

49. The Float Trailer

Giant tow trucks haul special float trailers loaded with heavy equipment like tractor shovels and bulldozers out to the construction sites. How do those big machines manage to climb aboard the float? Surprise! The gooseneck comes off and the float kneels down so Big Digger can roll right on.

Tow Truck, or T.T., is happy to show us where all of his equipment is stored neatly in compartments, ready for any job he might encounter on the highway. Chains, check. Tool box, check. Some of the trucks or buses he may have to rescue are very heavy, so his tow bar and boom are strong and powerful.

46. Over the Mountain Pass

It takes three strong engines to pull the passenger cars up the steep slopes of the mountain. To reach the pass at the top they give it all the energy they have. Hugging the sides of the mountain, crossing narrow bridges over cascading streams, and chugging through tunnels, the engines never fail to reach their goal. What great views!

37. Jet Meets Wings

Here come the wings, flying through the factory with the help of the overhead crane. Next comes the fuselage, soaring over and down, to be mounted on top of the wings and carefully bolted into place. Now Jet Girl really looks like a plane, but she needs engines to go with those wings: two jet engines, please!

When Jet Girl lands at the airport near the factory, she remembers how she was assembled there. All the parts have to come together and be carefully inspected and tested at each position before the plane moves forward along the line. Does it look like a plane yet?

27. The Big Press Run

2008 - Season 3

Everything is ready to go for ?Charlie? the printing press as he gears up to print 650,000 copies of the weekend edition. The plates are on the rollers, and the paper is humming along through at top speed. Meanwhile, the robot squad keep Charlie supplied with new rolls of paper. In just a few hours all the papers will be printed and shipped out across the city to land on doorsteps and newsstands before the sun comes up.

26. The Plate Making Machines

An important part of the newspaper team is the crew of plate-making machines. They put all the words and pictures onto thin metal plates that go onto the drums of printing press. Each page of the newspaper gets its' own set of plates, and the plate-makers all have their favourite section; the front page, the sports section, and even the comics and the puzzle page.

25. The Car Crusher

2008 - Season 3

'Big Mouth' is a powerful hydraulic crusher and he is hungry for cars. He can't wait to get them into his giant jaws so he can squeeze them and crush them flat. 'Forks' stuffs the old cars into 'Big Mouth', gives them a couple of pokes to make them fit and then stands back while the crushing begins. One, two, three, four. Four cars squashed flat as a pancake perfect for loading onto the transport truck which hauls them to the scrap yard.

24. Rolls and Robots

The vast rolls of paper needed for the press are really heavy. A team of robots is at the ready to help collect them from the delivery trucks and organize them in the storage area. The robots are happiest when they have instructions to follow; collecting rolls, finding the exact spot to store a roll, or bringing a roll to the press whenever he runs low on paper.

What a treat! We get the first close-up look at the brand-new vessel 'Coastal Renaissance' as he greets his first cars and trucks to board on the maiden voyage. He is a beautiful double-ended ferry boat, one of the largest in the world. Once the cars are loaded, the watertight doors are shut and we're on our way with a mighty blast from his gigantic ship's horn

18. Hot Off the Press

4 stories high and almost as long as a city block, ?CHARLIE? the printing press is simply HUGE! But don?t worry, he?s a gentle giant and full of interesting stories; after all, he is printing the newspaper. We get a guided tour of how a big press works, from all the many rollers, to the folding section and the many conveyor belts that zip the finished papers along. WHOOPS! STOP THE PRESSES! The paper is torn. Can the workers fix it in time for the big press run?

16. Sunken Treasure Hunt

2008 - Season 3

'Newt' is used to working in cold, dark and often murky water, so he doesn't get upset when he goes underwater and it's pretty mucky. He gives up on the lights and uses his sonar to find what the boss lost off the boat. There it is! The manipulator arm closes in and retrieves the treasure. Maybe 'Newt' will get to be in the movies now!

8. At the Steel Mill

'Slab Hauler' is a big red machine with six huge tires and he guides us around a steel mill, after showing us how he can use his strong pincers to pick up slabs of hot steel and transport them to the slab yards and into the rolling mills. Since he moves around the mill so much, he knows all the machines that work there. He introduces us to 'Dozer' who grooms the hills of crushed coal and 'Scraper', the bottom loading vehicle that transports the coal to the coke

7. Reach for the Sky

2008 - Season 3

When the job calls for lifting big and heavy objects onto an area where a regular crane can?t reach, like the middle of the roof of a giant warehouse or factory, an AIR CRANE does the job. A Sikorsky helicopter named Gipsy Lady has twin jet engines and very long rotors to manage the heavy weight of the transformers and air conditioning units she flies up and onto the centre of the factory roof.
